NEW WEB DEVELOPER’S GROUP FORMED

Kick-off Presentation September 13

A new professional group for internet developers is starting in Tucson. The Tucson ColdFusion User Group has been formed for web programmers and developers who use the ColdFusion database-interaction language in creating web sites. With the addition of this group, Tucson’s ever-growing presence in the high-tech industry becomes even stronger.

ColdFusion, created by Allaire, is a complete Web application server for developing and delivering scalable e-business applications. Sites built and run on ColdFusion include www.crayola.com, www.potterybarn.com, and www.fao.com, the website for FAO Schwartz. Local web sites using ColdFusion include the Greater Tucson Economic Council (www.futurewest.com) and www.tucsontechjobs.com, plus many others.

The kick-off meeting of the Tucson ColdFusion User Group is September 13, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The meeting will be held at 4444 E Grant Road, Ste. 104 (Grant and Swan, the offices of the Tucson Computer Society). There is no cost to attend, and lots of great prizes will be given away, including T-shirts and posters! Any web developer using an Allaire product is welcome to attend.

Speaking at the meeting will be Raul Hayes, a former Java developer who has joined forces with Allaire. Hayes will present “The Allaire Business Platform: Technology Roadmap 2000,” detailing Allaire’s future plans for its suite of internet-based technologies.

Raul Hayes is one of the many new faces at Allaire, having come on board in June 2000 as a Sales Engineer for the Southwest territory. Before joining Allaire he was a Java software developer focused on building web-based applications for the call center industry.

ColdFusion uses a tag-based scripting language that is ideal for programming Web applications. Processed entirely on the server, the ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML) cleanly integrates with HTML for user interface and XML for data exchange. Both open and extendible,

CFML supports more than 70 server-side tags, 200 functions, and 800 third-party components, making it the most productive language available for creating advanced Web applications.
